GUWAHATI, July 19 - Nakachari HS School emerged champions in the U-14 Pilik Choudhury Memorial Inter District School Football Championship.
In the final played at the Nehru Stadium here today, the Nakachari school, representing the Jorhat district, defeated Mahmora Dipling HS School, of Sivasagar district, 2-1 in penalty shoot out. The match was ended in a goalless draw in the regulation and extra time.
Both the teams tried heart out for scoring in the regulation and extra time but due to poor finishing they could not beat the opponent goalkeepers. Most of the boys were good in controlling the ball but their team work was not good enough to put much pressure on the opponent.
For the winning team Anil Orang and Sidharth Tanty were the successful shooters while for Dipling only Rahul Mili could convert.
Lanu Toshi Langser, Joydip Gogoi and Samujal Bora failed to shoot home for the Nakachari team while for the Dipling school June Kheria, Anupam Borgohain, Drun Karmakar and Ramananda Munda missed their shots.
Joydip Gogoi of Nakachari was adjudged best player of the tournament.
In the closing function, Director of Sports Anjan Sarma and Deputy Director Pradip Hazarika gave away the prizes. Sarma speaking on the occasion said, the team will be given some intensive coaching before proceeding to Delhi. The tournament was organised by the Directorate of Sports.
Now the Nakachari HS School will represent Assam in the U-14 Subroto Cup to be held in New Delhi in September.
