Nagsankar State veterinary dispensary in pathetic state

By ANN Service

JAMAGURIHAT, Aug 25 - The Nagsankar State veterinary dispensary has borne the brunt of sheer negligence and apathy of the State Veterinary and Animal Husbandry department. Nearly three decades back, a State veterinary dispensary was established at Purani Telia village, on the southern side of the famous Nagsankar temple.

The dispensary was supposed to look after the veterinary health needs of the villages of Purani Telia, Na-Talia, Mech Gaon, Lakshan Gargh, Chamardoloni, Zharanpani, Gosai Chapari, Batiaroka etc., as the villages are dependent on agriculture for their livelihood. Moreover, as most of the villages are inhabited by people of the Nepali community, they earn their livelihood by rearing cows and selling milk along with poultry farming. This dispensary was supposed to help them a lot. But their hopes have been belied as this dispensary from its inception has failed to help them.

There is a building but without any facility. There is neither a veterinary surgeon and required staff nor any apparatus and medicine. Another building was built near the old one but to no avail. The old building is in ruins; doors and windows are completely broken and full of jungles. The iron gate cannot be opened as it has rusted completely. The signboard is in a dilapidated state, half hanging only annoucing that it is a State veterinary dispensary.

A 4th grade employee has been looking after the hospital for the last 10-15 years and he is not paid regularly, it is alleged. A veterinary assistant was appointed but since he has no access to the dispensary building, he does not visit the dispensary. The people complain that he has given his telephone number and anybody who wants his services can call him. He only comes to treat the sick animals after taking money from people. During the last 15 years, the Congress Government in power did not take any steps to ease the trouble of the people. However, even after 15 months the new Government also has done nothing to help the people. The people want the new Government to take immediate action in this regard.
