Nagas wont accept alien document as constitution

By Correspondent

DIMAPUR, Oct 11 - The working committee of Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs) today asserted that the Nagas must be told whether an already drafted Naga constitution has been put forward for acceptance or the right to frame a constitution is being demanded from the Government of India.

It is a figment of imagination that Nagas would accept a constitution or Yehzabo that hinges on demolishing the centuries-old Naga heritage to give way to discarded political principles and philosophies which blinded failed dictators and despots in the last hundred years or so, stated a release issued by the media cell of the working committee of NNPGs.

It further said the Naga constitution must be drafted by a committee drawn from a pool of distinguished men and women from every Naga tribe. It asserted that the Naga people cannot accept an alien document as the Naga constitution.

According to the committee, the younger generation of Nagas will question the wisdom of the leaders of today if their future is again thrown into turmoil and conflict. It reiterated that in the 55 rounds of political negotiations between the Government of India and the NNPGs, the former had accepted the political and historical rights of the Nagas on self-determination of their future in consonance with their distinct identity.

All unresolved issues, both the entities have agreed, shall be pursued through continuous democratic political process. What is honourable and acceptable today, Nagas must embrace for the sake of our children and our childrens children, it added.
