Nagara naam artistes meet CM

NALBARI, July 21 - The Sodou Assam Nagara Naam Sangha demanded the State government to recognise the pathaks and pathikas of Nagara naam, a popular art form of the State as artistes so that they can avail the government facilities like Silpi pension, one-term grant etc.

A delegation of the Sangha on Monday submitted memoranda to the Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Cultural Minister Naba Doley to redress the grievances of the Nagara naam artistes of the State. Earlier, the Sangha also met the Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Speaker of Assam Assembly Ranjit Das, Ministers Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, Chandra Mohan Patowary and apprised them of their problems. The delegates who met the Chief Minister yesterday consisted of known Nagara naam pathak Kailash Talukdar, general secretary of the Sangha, Kushal Pathak, assistant secretary, Bipin Sarma, president of Dakshin Kamrup Anchalik Nagara Naam Sangha and its general secretary Ajit Nath.

Awareness meet: On the occasion of the foundation day of National Agriculture and Rural Development Bank (NABARD), the Nalbari branch of the bank organised an awareness meeting on financial literacy at Digheli village of the district recently. The meeting was organised under the aegis of Bishnujyoti Janakalyan Samiti where more than 200 activists from self-help groups took part. The Nalbari, Gopal Bazar, and Morowa branches of AGVB disbursed an amount of Rs 55 lakh among 53 self-help groups of the district.
