Nagaon top in State yoga meet

NAGAON, Oct 30 - The 22nd Assam State Yoga Sports Championship organised by the Assam Yoga Association in collaboration with Nehru Yuva Kendra, Nagaon and ADP College, Nagaon concluded on Monday night.

Nagaon was adjudged the best team where Darrang and Sonitpur districts came second and third respectively. Sivasagar was awarded the best disciplined team trophy. A total of 30 district teams participated in various yoga competitions.

In the sub-junior group, Uditarani Bora (girls) and Manashjyoti Bora (boys, both Nagaon) won the best performer�s award while in the senior category Panchi Bora (Nagaon) and Bhargov Lakita (Darrang) clinched the champion�s titles. Astha Bora (Sivasagar) and Debasish Bora (Nagaon) bagged the titles in the junior category.

In the closing ceremony, international medallist and member of Yoga Federation of India, Chandrakanta S Pangaree was present as chief guest and distributed the prizes. Senior journalist and sports organiser, Rajen Borkotoki, Dr Krishna Kr Bora, among others were present on the occasion. Several trophies were donated by retired IAS officer Gakul Chandra Hazarika.

Meanwhile, the new executive committee of Assam Yoga Association for the next term was set up during the championship. Dr Krishna Kumar Bora became chairman while Tapan Kr Das was named president. Prabhat Bora became the general secretary.
