NAGAON, April 20 - A migrant worker from Nagaon�s Gadharigaon village, who was staying at his work place at Vapi in Gujarat till March 27, arrived at his native last night near Raha area after travelling more than 2,700 kilometres on foot in around 25 days during the ongoing nationwide lockdown called in wake of COVID-19 pandemic.
This shocking and unbelievable incident has overwhelmed the people of the district. This middle aged man, who has been identified as Jadav Gogoi of Gadharigaon, was rescued from Raha toll gate area by some local members of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) along with Raha police on Sunday.
Subsequently, he was admitted to the Nagaon Swahid Bhugeswari Phookonani Civil Hospital. Meanwhile, doctors of the hospital said that although the man was tired, he was stable. They added that since he had arrived from outside the State, he would be put in 14 days quarantine period, either at the hospital or at home. Simultaneously, his swab samples also would be sent for COVID-19 test.
Besides, Dibyajit Hazarika, a local leader of the parishad, told mediapersons here that they came to know about this shocking incident when Jadav Gogoi contacted his family members by using someone�s phone from Ahotguri, following which he along with some other local members of the unit went out in search of Gogoi and finally rescued him near at the Raha toll gate.
The man who had set out on his journey on foot on March 27 last amidst the nationwide lockdown from the industrial city of Vapi in Gujarat, was robbed of Rs 4000 he had and other belongings while he was in Bihar, he said adding further that he survived those 25 agonising days by begging.
