Nagaon gather 159, Bongaigaon 26/0

GUWAHATI, April 18 - Nagaon were all out for 159 in their first innings against Bongaigaon in their last quarterfinal league match of the Senior Inter District Cricket Tournament for the Nuruddin Ahmed Trophy.

Put in to bat on the opening day of the two-day match at the ACA Stadium in Barsapara here today, the Nagaon batsmen could not show much grit against the Bongaigaon bowlers and lasted for 41.1 overs. Veteran Bitop Mahanta topped the scoresheet with an unbeaten 36 while Mrinmoy Dutta was the other notable contributor with 22. For Bongaigaon, Santanu Dhar (3/57), Kon Urang (3/25), Pallav Kr Das (2/24) were among the leading wicket takers.

At stumps, Bongaigaon were 26 for no loss and still trailing by 133 runs in the first innings.

Day�s play abandoned: At Mangaldai, the opening day�s play of the quarterfinal league match between Guwahati and Lakhimpur was abandoned due to soggy outfield caused by overnight rain.

Before start of the last quarterfinal league matches Guwahati was leading the table with 16 points followed by Silchar (15 points), Bongaigaon (13 points), Nagaon (6 points), Jorhat (5 points), Lakhimpur (5 points).

In the semifinals to be played from April 21 to 23, the top team will play against the fourth while the second will take on the third.
