Nagaon district admin ready for polls

NAGAON, March 11 - The Nagaon district administration has completed all preparations to conduct free and fair Lok Sabha elections in two phrases in the district on April 11 and April 18 respectively.

In a press conference held today at the DC�s conference hall, the Returning Officer cum Deputy Commissioner, Nagaon, Jadav Saikia said that the candidates intending to contest for Kaliabor and Nagaon parliamentary seats have to submit their nomination papers in the office of Deputy Commissioner, Nagaon and to assist the Returning Officer, ADC Hemanta Bhuyan has been appointed as Assistant Returning Officer and has been authorised to look after the entire process of Kaliabor parliamentary constituency. Saikia however said that the code of conduct for Kaliabor constituency will be enacted from March 18 and the last date of submission of nominations paper will be March 25. Examination/verification of nomination papers will be done on March 26 while the last date of withdrawal of nominations is fixed on March 28.

Similarly for Nagaon parliamentary constituency, the code of conduct will be announced on March 19, the last date of submission of nominations is March 26, verification of nominations paper is March 27 while withdrawal of nominations is fixed on March 29.

Referring to the total number voters of the both the constituencies he reiterated further, that in Nagaon constituency, there are a total of 17,74,465 voters out of which 9,11,198 are males and 8,63,217 are female voters. On the other hand, in Kaliabor constituency, there are a total of 17,10,900 voters out of which 8,74,317 are males and 8,36,579 are females. He added that this time the voters will exercise their franchise in a total of 1520 vote centres in both constituencies out of which 146 are critical and rare sensitive and the entire district is scheduled under 27 zones and 126 sectors. In the press conference, the Superintendent of Police, Nagaon, Sankarbrata Raimedhi and ADC Joyanta Borah were also present.
