Nagaon dist hit by low milk production

By Correspondent

KAMPUR, Feb 9 Milk production in Nagaon district is fast dwindling during the last few years, which has contributed a lot in malnutrition among children and elders.

Milk, as is widely known, is supposed to be the best nutrient for the people. It is also largely used in social functions and ceremonies in Assamese society. When contacted, Rahul Timsina, an educated young man who deals with milk products in Nagaon town revealed candidly that shortage of manpower in villages due to exodus of youngsters in search of lucrative jobs and who are usually engaged in milk-related business has adversely affected milk production. Scant and poor quality of fodder has also contributed to low milk production.

Over and above, neglect of the Government in stepping up milk production by improving the condition of livestock too has hindered milk production to a great extent. The conscious people now feel that the Government should undertake all possible measures to accelerate milk production.
