Nagaon dist admin gears up for Namami Brahmaputra

NAGAON, March 25 - Like in other parts of the State, the Nagaon district administration has also geared up to make the Namami Brahmaputra Festival to be held from March 31 to February 4 a success. Addressing mediapersons here, the Nagaon Deputy Commissioner Shamsher Singh informed that through this festival Nagaon will showcase its rich culture and simultaneously will be taking the initiative to boost local tourism as well as trade and commerce.

Singh informed that 40% of Kaziranga wildlife sanctuary in Nagaon district has not been properly highlighted. Nagaon is the birth place of Srimanta Sankaradeva and has a number of historical sites. He further said that nearly 50 tourist spots having scenic beauty, historical sites like Jayantipur mosque, Mataji Gurudwara, Assamese Sikh village, the birth place of the Prime Minister of Assam (before independence) and first Chief Minister of the State Gopinath Bardoloi etc., are in Nagaon. The district administration has arranged vehicles to visit tourist spots from Nehrubali during the festival, he added.

Attending the press meet, Nagaon MLA Rupak Sarma said that 5000 students will take part in presenting the theme song on the inaugural day at Nehrubali. Raha MLA Dimbeswar Das also took part in the press meet.

Civil SDO Kaliabor, P Chakrawarty informed about the activities to be held in Kaliabor during the festival. Arati will be held near the bank of Brahmaputra during the festival, he added.

Ethnic food festival, different sports and different competition will be held during Namami Brahmaputra. Different religious institutions belonging to all faiths will arrange special prayers for peace, unity and development of the region, the DC informed. He further said that to involve all sections of people, a gaon sabha will be held on March 31st evening.

ADC Lachit Das, Jayanta Kr Bora, Gauri Sankar Das and DIPRO incharge Manjer Elahi Borbhuyan were present in the press meet.

In this connection, in a press meet held at the Silghat festival site, Samsher Singh, Deputy Commissioner, Nagaon speaking to mediapersons of Kaliabor Press Club disclosed that this festival will specially help develop tourism and economy of the district besides helping the businessmen and traders commercially.

The festivals will who held at Dhing, Raha and Nagaon Sadar from April 4 to 6. Ashokastami Mela will be held at Silghat Namami Festival site. P Chakravarty, ADC/SDO Kaliabor earlier explained the main objective of the meeting. Devraj Upadhaya SP, Nagaon, Jyoti R Nath, SDPO Kaliabor were present in the meet.
