Nagaon civic body to reassess tax structure

By Correspondent

NAGAON, Aug 9 Nagaon municipality will shortly reassess the tax structure within its jurisdiction, observed the PWD and Urban Development Minister Ajanta Neog while visiting the town recently.

The Government has also decided to deploy mechanical gadgets to keep the town clean as there were only 63 labourers for 26 wards within the towns municipal area.

Neog also stressed on maintaining a pollution-free environment and for that she called upon the citizens to be more conscious and contribute whole-heartedly to keep the town clean.

She also took part in a discussion where Minister Rockybul Hussain, MLA Dr Durlav Chamua, DC Dr M Aanganathu and PWD officials of Nagaon and Morigaon districts took part.

Nagaon municipal areas has not improved as per expectations. Though a number of roads were constructed or repaired before the last general election, but construction works were not satisfactory. It is hardly possible to even walk on the road leading to Nagaon Kendriya Vidyalaya, Haiborgaon Railway Station etc.

The drains of the town were not constructed scientifically and for that even a light shower is enough to inundate several roads of the town.

Garbage disposal is another perennial problem. During the last tenure, Minister Rockybul Hussain disclosed that power would be produced from garbage, but that declaration is yet to come true.

Further, childrens parks are not maintained properly. Even a park near the residence of Minister Hussain and christened as Tarikuddin Ahmed Park has now became a parking place for vehicles.

Rickshaws are another problem of the town. The Nagaon Municipal Authority have no records, whatsoever, about the number of cycle rickshaws plying on the roads of the town. Additionally, no proper fare structure exists for cycle rickshws and auto rickshaws. That is why the passengers always have to face difficulty while moving from one place to the other.

A modern morgue was constructed in the BP Civil Hospital, but foul smell still prevails in the area of its existence. There is no incineration facility in several nusing homes for treating daily waste. The exasperated tax-payers are therefore keen to see what pragmatic measures are initiated by Minister Ajanta Neog.
