Nagaland varsity reinstates suspended teachers

By The Assam Tribune

KOHIMA, March 31 (PTI) - Paving the way for a conducive academic atmosphere in the institute, the Nagaland University has revoked suspension of three senior teachers against whom the action was taken on charges of "indiscipline".

"After four months of harassment and victimisation, Vice-Chancellor K Kannan has revoked the suspension order on March 29 following intervention of the Ministry of Human Resource Development and the Visitor of Nagaland University," a press release issued today by Nagaland University Teachers' Association (NUTA) said.

A NUTA delegation, which had paralysed academic activities in the three campuses of the varsity in protest against the suspension, had met President Prathiba Patil, who is also the Visitor of the Central university, to resolve the issue.

Although NUTA called off its agitation last week, the Postgraduate Students' Union started academic closure strike demanding permanent settlement of differences between the varsity authority and the teachers.
