Nagaland upbeat after Ravi takes charge as Governor

By Correspondent

DIMAPUR, Aug 2 - Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, Leader of Opposition TR Zeliang, Lok Sabha member Tokheho Yepthomi, the Nagaland unit of the National Peoples Party (NPP) and the United Naga Tribes Association of Border Areas (UNTABA) have congratulated RN Ravi on taking charge as the Governor of the State. Ravi, who has also been the interlocutor of the Naga peace talks since August 2014, took oath as the Nagaland Governor on Thursday.

Addressing the reception programme organised in honour of the new Governor at the State Banquet Hall in Kohima on Thursday night, Rio said Ravis polished, humble and compassionate nature have won over the trust and confidence of all sections of the people.

The Chief Minister reiterated that the Indo-Naga peace process is the top priority of the Peoples Democratic Alliance Government in the State, and that it was committed to playing the role of an active facilitator in the peace talks.

Zeliang, on the other hand, said that Nagaland was fortunate to have a Governor in the person of Ravi whose name and identity have become synonymous with the Indo-Naga political issue.

It was only after 80 rounds of peace talks spanning several years that the framework agreement was signed with Ravi as the interlocutor. It is without doubt that his role and contribution towards the Indo-Naga political solution leading to the signing of the framework agreement between the Government of India and the NSCN (I-M) on August 3, 2015, which is now joined by seven Naga national political groups, will go down in the annals of history as a landmark achievement, Zeliang said.

The lone Lok Sabha member of the State, Tokheho Yepthomi, expressed the hope that the long-standing Naga political issue would be settled soon with Ravi at the helm of the Indo-Naga political negotiations.

Meanwhile, the Nagaland unit of the NPP hoped that his expertise and experience with the Central and Nagaland governments, Ravi would be able to work in the larger interest of the State and its people.
