DIMAPUR, July 25 - Nagaland Government has decided to take preventive measures against possible influx of illegal immigrants from Assam after the final declaration of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in the State on July 30.
An official release on Wednesday said Nagaland police are deploying additional forces in the areas bordering Assam to check and prevent influx of the illegal immigrants.
The decision to take preventive measures was taken at a meeting of Home and Police departments under the chairmanship of chief secretary Temjen Toy. The chief secretary informed the meeting that the State Government is contemplating to carry out exercise on enrolment under NRC.
Additional Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) units are also being deployed and flying squads will be sent to the border areas, the release stated. The State Government is also writing to the village councils to be vigilant and not to allow the illegal immigrants to enter their jurisdictions or to employ them in any manner.
Instructions to deputy commissioners have also been issued to take appropriate measures in this respect and to issue necessary advisories to house owners in the towns to verify the identity of the tenants from the authorities concerned and not to let out their premises to doubtful and suspicious people.
The release further stated the State Government has also received instructions from Central Government regarding prevention and action against mob lynching. In this regard, it was decided at the meeting to set up special task force under the respective superintendent of police in all the districts.
