Nagaland Rajya Sabha MP passes away

DIMAPUR, Nov 26 - Lone Rajya Sabha member from Nagaland Khekiho Zhimomi passed away in All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi following a cardiac arrest today morning. He was 69 and leaves behind seven daughters and two sons. His body was being flown to Dimapur from New Delhi for the last rites.

Zhimomi was admitted in AIIMS three days ago and shifted to ICU last evening. He was declared dead at 6.20 am today.

Vice President Hamid Ansari, Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman MM Jacob and Lok Sabha MP from Sikkim PD Rai paid homage to late Zhimomi. Union Ministers Venkaiah Naidu, Jitender Singh and Kiren Rijiju visited AIIMS and paid floral tributes to the departed keader.

A condolence service was held at AIIMS Hospital in honour of Zhimomi. Lok Sabha MP and former Nagaland Chief Minister Nephiu Rio, former Supreme Court Judge HK Sema, Centre�s interlocutor for Naga talks RN Ravi, Delhi Naga Students Federation representatives among others were present at the condolence service.

Nagaland and Assam Governor PB Acharya and Nagaland Chief Minister TR Zeliang have expressed deep grief at the demise of the sitting Rajya Sabha MP.

In a condolence message, Acharya said Zhimomi�s contribution for the welfare of the people of Nagaland as an MLA and as Cabinet Minister of the State since 1989 and also as a Rajya Sabha MP since 2008 will be remembered.

Chief Minister TR Zeliang said Zhimomi had always been a staunch regionalist and described his decade-long association with him as quite memorable.

�As we pay our last respects to our senior leader, let us all remember the good deeds that he had done during his lifetime and try to emulate him�, Zeliang said.

Nagaland Assembly Speaker Chotisuh Sazo also condoled the death of Zhimomi.
