Nagaland orders probe into seizure of Rs 1.10 cr

KOHIMA, June 21 � The Nagaland Rural Development department has ordered an inquiry into the seizure of over Rs 1.10 crore by the Assam police from a Nagaland official which was to be delivered to the home of a contractor.

Rs 1,11,15,530 without valid document and security cover on June 15.

But he was let off and the money returned after the Assam police received a fax message from Project Director, Mon DRDA stating that the money was withdrawn from Mon SBI for paying a Dimapur-based contractor against Indira Awas Yojna (IAY) work.

In a notification received here today Rural Development joint secretary Kelei Zeliang said the department has set up a two-member inquiry committee headed by OSD, RD department to go into the details and asked to submit a report to the government within 10 days.

The notification dated June 16 and released to the media today said a show-cause notice had been served on the Project Director directing him to reply within 10 days.

The notice asked why disciplinary action should not be taken against him under the Nagaland Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1967.

The Congress Legislature Party (CLP) in Nagaland yesterday demanded immediate clarification from the State government about the seizure of the money by the Assam police and asked it to explain the urgency in making home delivery of cash to the contractor. � PTI
