Nagaland observes National Voters� Day

DIMAPUR, Jan 25 - National Voters� Day was observed across Nagaland today. In the State capital Kohima, the officers and staff of the State took National Voters Day pledge at Nagaland Civil Secretariat conference hall.

Chaired by Home Secretary Bendangkokba, who administered the pledge, in his introductory message appreciated the direction given by Election Commission of India to uphold democratic traditions of the country and dignity of free, fair and peaceful elections without being influenced by religion, race, caste, community, language or any inducement.

Newmai News adds: National Voters� Day was observed today all over Mizoram. Addressing the 6th National Voters� Day, Mizoram Governor Lt Gen Nirbhay Sharma (Rtd) said that the main objective of the Day is to spread awareness of the right to vote by every citizen of India who are eligible and to also spread the message of the value of each vote for good governance.

�To cast vote is the right and privilege of the citizens, the best instrument to lead the government along the right path, and an attestation of their being the owner of the government�, the Governor said.

Welcoming the new voters, he advised them to value their voting right with conscience and added that India is known by the world as a nation with elected government and where the people�s choice is given importance.
