Nagaland not to part with an inch of land: Rio

By Correspondent

KOHIMA, March 30 Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has asserted that the State Government would not part with even an inch of the actual land of the Nagas.

Making the concluding remarks on the concerns expressed by Opposition MLAs during the debate on the motion of thanks to the Governors address in the State Assembly on Saturday, the Chief Minister said the State Government has rejected the 1925 Notification Map of Survey of India demanding that new maps have to come up with marking of all Naga claimed area.

He said the Supreme Court itself was finding difficulties in giving judgement on the Assam-Nagaland border issue, which is still pending in the court.

Recalling that in 1979 Nagaland had submitted six maps and 41 documents on Assam-Nagaland border to the Centre, which was again handed over to Assam Government. Regretting that the Assam Government had lost the documents, he said the process of recovery is on as the Supreme Court has directed the Assam Government to trace it.

He assured that the Government wants to see that the actual Naga areas are marked and that it would continue to fight to the last till Assam comes for an amicable settlement of the issue outside the court.

He also informed the House that the advocates representing the Nagaland Government led by Advocate General is doing a fine job in cornering the Assam Government and the Government of India in the court.

Maintaining that physical occupation by Assam poses the main problem, he informed that the Government has deployed Village Guards to protect the border areas.

On queries of Congress MLAs on implementation of 6th ROP, he said the Government would not deprive the State employees and it will be implemented from April 1, 2010 as the 5th ROP was also implemented in April 2000. Since ROP is implemented every 10 year the right time is April 2010, he said.
