Nagaland forms special action group

DIMAPUR, March 17 - The Nagaland Government today constituted a nine-member special action group to continuously monitor any situation arising out of the novel coronavirus.

The group, headed by Principal Secretary (Home) Abhijit Sinha, will ensure that the State is ready for any eventuality, apart from taking prompt measures to prevent and control the spread of the virus in the event of an outbreak.

Meanwhile, various districts in the State are taking preventive measures against the novel coronavirus. Dimapur DC Anoop Khinchi on Tuesday suspended all inner line permit (ILP) counters in the district till further notice. In an order, he said ILPs for domestic or foreign tourists and all other categories will remain suspended with immediate effect. ILPs will be only renewed in his office, he added.

The district administration has also directed closure of all cinema halls in the district.

Khinchi convened a meeting of the Dimapur District Task Force to deliberate on further preventive measures against the virus. He directed the Medical Department to activate the control room by Wednesday. He stressed the need for setting up training and awareness cells to create awareness among the people about precautionary steps.

The meeting also decided to set up a helpline desk and conduct screening at the Dimapur Railway Station and different check gates in the district.

Khinchi urged the gaon burhas (village chiefs) and NGOs to spread information in their respective colonies. He emphasised on proper disposal of medical waste and used masks.

Dimapur Commissioner of Police Tetseo told the meeting that the police cyber cell was monitoring the social media forums for any false information about COVID-19. He warned that stern action would be taken for spreading false information.

Dimapur Airport Director M Zhimomi said thermal scanning of all passengers is being done. He added that hand sanitisers are being provided to all and additional cleaning is being done to ensure that the airport area is properly sanitised.

Members of the Dimapur District Task Force, besides Army, police and CISF personnel, attended the meeting.
