DIMAPUR, Aug 12 � The Nagaland Contractors and Suppliers Union (NCSU) has launched a protest stir against the State Government over the issue of non-payment of pending bills, the first phase of which is being carried out in the form of poster campaign.
Kicking off the agitation in Kohima on Friday, NCSU president Pele Khezhie told reporters that the pending bills have been left hanging since 2000 and also that most of the bills in PWD are of the DAN Government�s tenure. He informed that an amount of Rs 18.19 crore is pending under R&B, Rs 6.61 crore under Housing branch of PWD and Rs 11.02 crore under PHE from 33 divisions of the departments across the State. These bills have been pending for more than 11 years now, he said.
He said there has not been any positive response from the State Government despite repeated appeals and requests made through a number of representations and ultimatums. Rather the State Cabinet had decided to set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) under Vigilance Commission to enquire into the details of the bills, he said.
In this regard, he reiterated the NCSU stand that it would not accept the SIT as the pending bills are of contractors from all over the State, with some amounts involving barely Rs 5,000 and above. He also regretted that the bills have not been released despite the Minister for Roads and Bridges highlighting the issue in the Assembly and stating that it had duly been approved for payment.
