Nagaland BJP elects new president

DIMAPUR, Jan 12 - Visasolie Lhoungu was elected as the president of the BJP Nagaland unit for the term commencing from 2016. Lhoungu was a former BJP candidate who contested the 10-Northern Angami-II A/C bye-election, the seat which fell vacant after former Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio was elected as Nagaland�s lone Lok Sabha MP.

Party functionaries and other aspirants were present during the election held at a hotel here.

BJP national general secretary and in-charge of Nagaland Farooq Khan announced the name of Visasolie as the new party chief on Monday. BJP�s State election officer Mmhonlumo Kikon also stated that the appointment was made following the unanimous election held on Monday.

The organisational election of the party was conducted as per the provision of Article XVII clause 2 of the party�s rule and regulations, according to Khan. He expressed hope that the party would achieve its goal under the new leadership by maintaining the spirit of oneness.

The national general secretary also disclosed that the BJP State unit would be rolling out new strategies and tactics in a well-designed manner to defeat the plans of various elements working against the party in the State.

Khan also appreciated the role of the State Election Officer for conducting the organisational election smoothly.
