Nagaland alert on possible influx

DIMAPUR, Sept 3 - The Nagaland Government today advised that all entry points and check gates in the State should be suitably strengthened to prevent any possible influx of illegal immigrants following publication of the final National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam.

In an advisory, Principal Secretary to the Nagaland Government Abhijit Sinha said mobile patrolling at vulnerable locations should be activated and non-locals entering the State should not be allowed without valid passes issued by the district administration and any unusual influx of outsiders without valid passes should be promptly brought to the knowledge of the district administration.

The Government asked all the village, town and municipal authorities to take steps to strictly monitor the influx of people from outside the State in violation of the existing rules and norms.

The district administration and police have been directed to properly verify the antecedents of new tenants and strictly monitor the regulation of inner line permit (ILP), especially along the border areas.

In another development, Dimapur DC Kevekha Kevin Zehol said that Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton, Chief Secretary Temjen Toy and other senior officers would meet the chairmen and gaon buras of wards and villages of sadar and neighbouring villages at his conference hall at 11 am on Wednesday to discuss matters relating to the NRC and implementation of the ILP.
