Naga pact shocks Kuki body

By Correspondent

IMPHAL, Aug 11 - The recently announced agreement/accord with concealed details signed between the Centre and the NSCN(IM) on August 3, was a great shock to the Kuki people, the Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) stated in an open memorandum to the Prime Minister.

KIM, an apex body of the Kuki community in the State, has demanded settlement of the criminal acts involving the NSCN(I-M) before any agreement is made with the militant outfit.

The Kuki Inpi has been demanding settlement of issues relating to NSCN(I-M)s involvement in the killing of 905 Kukis, besides ... rendering more than 1 lakh Kukis homeless in their own land, for justice, KIM general secretary Khaimang Chongloi said. Otherwise any agreement/accord will not be acceptable to the Kukis.

In its open memorandum to the Prime Minister, KIM president Thangkhosei Haokip said, The Kuki people never advocated violence, whether towards the government or any other communities, except in defending themselves against armed organisations supposedly fighting for independence. Therefore, any kind of settlement, agreement or accord prior to the settlement of the crimes committed by this particular faction of Naga political movement in a proper law court of the country will never be accepted by the Kuki Inpi.

Seeking immediate clarification from Prime Minister Narendra Modi as to why the Government of India closed the eyes to their continuous demands, the KIM secretary said, We have so far submitted six memoranda since Prime Minister PV Narasimha Raos regime, to settle the issue. But till now the government has not paid any heed to our demands.
