Naga Council dismayed over parallel govt in Dimapur dist

By Correspondent

DIMAPUR, Oct 27 - The Public Action Committee (PAC) of Naga Council Dimapur, one of the oldest civil society orgsnisations in Nagaland, on Saturday expressed dismay that the unfortunate existence of parallel governments running the affairs of the day has crippled and threatened our very survival.

It made the statement in the context of multiple taxations by various Naga political groups and State Government agencies.

The PAC has planned a mass public rally at Khermahal Junction here on October 31 to voice protest against rampant multiple taxation, syndicate and lease systems operating in and around Dimapur district by various unions and organisations, including various Naga political groups and State Government agencies.

It stated that rampant multiple taxation on goods and services, transporters, entry fees on vehicles, item wise taxes on goods, dealers, stockist, wholesellers, retailers, etc., has compounded the uncontrolled inflation in prices in the market thereby affecting the business community, consumers and general public of the district and the State.

In this connection, the committee held a meeting with 19 tribal hohos under Naga Council Dimapur, non-Naga communities, Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industries officials and the heads of educational institutes at the Naga Council Dimapur office on Saturday.

In the meantime, the Nagaland excise department warned its personnel deputed in various check gates against collection of any money from vehicles entering the state.

Excise commissioner Tarep Imchen, in a notification on Friday, said any excise personnel stationed in the check gates found indulging in collection of money from any vehicle would be severely dealt with as per the law.

The department issued the warning following reports of excise personnel and other departments collecting unauthorised tax from vehicles entering Nagaland at the check gates in Dimapur.

It sought active cooperation of the public in curbing collection of such unauthorised tax. The department appealed to all responsible to report any underhand dealings by its personnel at the check gates to the assistant commissioner of excise at 9436006452.

The PAC of Naga Council lauded the excise department for supporting the cause and taking necessary corrective measure.
