NABH recognition to Marwari Hospitals

GUWAHATI, Oct 8 - The century-old Marwari Hospitals, a charitable organisation at Athgaon in the city, has recently been awarded the NABH (National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Health Care Providers recognition for quality, patient comfort and safety, Sarat Kumar Jain, president said here.

Talking to The Assam Tribune, Jain said the NABH recognition will now help the hospital to receive patients from State, Central government, public sector units and patients covered under insurance companies. �We have now embarked upon building up modern radiology department, Emergency department and modular operation theatre which reduces chances of infection�, he said.

Established way back in 1916, the hospital�s maternity wing has the distinction of delivering over one lakh babies. �People from as far away as Hajo, Amingaon, Baihata come to this hospital for treatment. During the financial year 2018-19, there were 41,895 out-patients. The Accident and Emergency section handled 5,316 injured patients�, Jain said.

Sarat Jain, who is the CMD of SM Group and a former president of FINER, outlying his vision for the hospitals said, our immediate priority into make the hospital self-sustainable.

How long can we depend on donors. As this hospital caters to emergency and immediate treatment of patients from Athgaon, Bharalumukh, Fatasil and Sarabhbhatty areas, we want to develop it as a multi-purpose hospital�.

�As a charitable hospital our objective is to make treatment affordable to the general public. The poorest of poor is supported under various schemes. With donations and support of people we are able to break even. We sometimes suffer loss also�, he added.

Marwari Hospitals today has the best blood bank facility in the NE region with ID net facility which helps to screen the blood for viruses of HIV AIDS etc. Besides rare blood groups, it caters to patients of B Barooah Cancer Institute and other private city hospitals for supply of plasma and platelets. Blood is given free with the hospital charging only the processing charges.

�We are looking for sponsors to purchase a mobile blood collection van worth Rs 40 lakh. We have also applied to the NEC�, Jain said.

With an annual turnover of Rs 40 crore, the 170-bedded Marwari Hospitals today has a staff strength of 550 employees including doctors and nurses. �We have decided to set up a Gastro Liver Surgical Clinic in collaboration with Sir Gangaram Hospital in Delhi, which is also run by a Trust Society�, Jain added.

Jain who took over as president of the new management body in 2014-15 said, �the former conventional methods are being replaced by professional corporate culture. New HR policies and system of job allocation are being introduced to ensure that the hospital meet the expectations of the people in modern improved services�.
