NABARD vows to double farmers� income

GUWAHATI, July 12 - The NABARD celebrated its 35th foundation day today with a pledge to double farmers� income by 2022. The function held at the regional office of the NABARD was attended by Atul Bora, Agriculture Minister, Government of Assam.

Fruit tree saplings were planted on the NABARD premises on the occasion.

The function was attended by senior officers, staff members and retired staff.

The highlight of the function was a deliberation on the theme, �Doubling of farmers� income by 2022,� and the interventions through which the NABARD and the State Government could converge on key issues affecting agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry, fisheries and fruit processing. Technological interventions that will enhance the productivity of small and marginal farmers, along with infrastructure development focusing on agri-marketing, were also discussed in detail.

It may be mentioned that to drive the message of financial inclusion of the remotest areas of Assam, financial literacy awareness programmes were conducted by District Development Managers of the NABARD in 20 identified districts of Assam, coinciding with the celebration of the NABARD�s foundation day.

More than 2,000 rural people were sensitised in local languages about the management of money, importance of savings, advantages of savings with banks and social security schemes like Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY), Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY), Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY) and Atal Pension Yojana (APY).

To mark the occasion, a booklet on the success stories of self-help groups, joint liability groups and micro enterprise development programmes was released by the Agriculture Minister.
