N Lakhimpur suffers after rain, storm

By Correspondent

NORTH LAKHIMPUR, Aug 5 North Lakhimpur experienced unprecedented water logging and flooding as overnight rain and storm lashed the district headquarter and its adjoining areas with uprooted trees affecting power supply throughout the day.

After two days of scorching heat rain came to North Lakhimpur on Thursday accompanied by a heavy storm which uprooted many trees at different parts of the town. A huge eucalyptus tree was uprooted inside the PWD campus smashing power cables and blocking two roads. The heavy rain which continued till mid-day inundated almost every locality of North Lakhimpur town.

The non-existence of drains in most localities under North Lakhimpur Municipality Board and stagnation of existing drains in other parts have caused the flooding this time. The unplanned construction in the name of urbanization and the lack of vision and planning by North Lakhimpur Development Authority and Town and Country Planning Department are also to be blamed for the menace of flooding in North Lakhimpur.

Power was disrupted for the entire day in North Lakhimpur on Thursday because of uprooting of many trees which had damaged power cables and poles. North Lakhimpur sub-division of ASEB restored the power supply in a phased manner by repairing the damaged cables and poles and by late evening power supply was resumed in all parts of the town.
