MZU ranked 51st among top 100 Indian varsities

AIZAWL, April 11 - Mizoram University (MZU) has achieved a unique distinction of being ranked 51st among the top 100 Universities and Colleges of the country.

As per Ministry of Human Resource Development ranking released recently, MZU scored 60.31 just after National Institute of Food Technology, Entrepreneurship & Management (Niftem), Haryana which scored 60.44.

National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) constituted under MHRD conducted a study on 3,500 private and public institutions across the country and recently released a list of top 100 Indian universities. Union Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani released the �India Rankings 2016� on April 4 in which MZU ranked 51st followed by Kalasalingam Academy of Research and Higher Education, Tamilnadu. While Indian Institute of Science Bangalore, Karnataka topped the India Rankings 2016 list, Chettinad Academy of Research and Education (Care), Tamil Nadu stands at the bottom.

One of India�s most reputed universities Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) is ranked as country�s third best university followed by Hyderabad Central University which stands at rank four. Interestingly, Tezpur University of Assam topped universities in the NE and occupy fifth in the country�s ranking, leaving Delhi University in 6th rank.

Mizoram University is a Central university under the University Grants Commission and was established on July 2, 2001, by the Mizoram University Act (2000) of the Parliament of India. The President is the official Visitor, and the Governor of Mizoram acts as the Chief Rector. Initially, the university had seven academic departments inherited from NEHU, but it now has a total of over 30 departments. The university is located at Tanhril, about 12 km west of Aizawl.
