AIZAWL, June 10 � Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) today agitated and closed down the ICICI Bank here.
The MZP said several reasons have compelled the student body to close the bank. The staff of ICICI Bank were offensively impolite and unfriendly to Mizo customers and did not want to extend PMEGP loan to the Mizo youths, it alleged.
To enable students to receive PMEGP loan and student loan with ease, MZP had earlier held a discussion with several banks operating in Mizoram. The student body alleged that while representative of other banks attended the meeting, ICICI, Aizawl Branch did not take part in the meeting.
A meeting was held between MZP leaders and ICICI officials later this evening during which the officials told the students leaders of their willingness to instantly extend loan to those Mizo youths who have applied before. As a result, the student body called off the agitation against the ICICI bank for the time being, the release added.
