Mystery shrouds immediate transfer of ADC

By Correspondent

JORHAT, Nov 21 - Mystery shrouds the immediate transfer of an Additional Deputy Commissioner here, who was bold enough to blow the lid over fraudulent withdrawal of welfare funds of the State Government after he was entrusted the charge of District Development Commissioner (DDC) in Jorhat.

It may perhaps be pertinent to mention here that with the help of ADC Dwijen Singh, two enquiry officers of the district administration could detect a major case of corruption for which a former Additional Deputy Commissioner of the district was recently arrested.

However, a prime accused of the case named Prabhat Kalita is yet to be located or nabbed by police even after several days have elapsed since arrest of accused ADC Anjanabh Chaliha.

In fact Dwijen Singhs unbiased official action compelled the administration to order a probe into illegal withdrawal of public money by Government officers and the chairman of Sadharan Jati Development Council Prabhat Kalita.

Though he was not appointed as an enquiry officer for the case, it was gathered from official sources that Singh helped in the investigation as District Development Commissioner (DDC), which ultimately compelled the administration to lodge a formal complaint for immediate arrest of the accused persons.

Expressing serious concern over the immediate transfer of ADC Singh from Jorhat even before submission of the chargesheet of the corruption case in court, several socially conscious citizens and organisations here are convinced that an influential politician neither wanted the progress in investigation nor arrest of the accused officer Chaliha and Kalita.

Before ADC Singh, no other officer of the district administration dared to take such a bold step and identify a corruption case of such magnitude. In fact he was instrumental in helping the enquiry officers during investigation into the case of fraudulent withdrawal of more than Rs90 lakh from the welfare fund of Sadharan Jati Development Council. He was transferred from Jorhat only to protect many other accused officers, politicians and contractors, opined an enlightened senior citizen of Jorhat.

Along with him, many other senior citizens of Jorhat have appealed to the Government not to transfer the brave officer until police file chargesheet of the case.

Meanwhile, addressing a press conference today, Jorhat (BJP) MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa denied his role in the transfer of the brave officer who played a vital role in assisting two enquiry officers of the district administration during the probe.

I have not done anything to favour corruption. I too want proper investigation and punishment of the guilty in the graft case, Tasa said.
