Mystery shrouds advocates death in leopard attack

By Staff reporter

GUWAHATI, Jan 9 While the doctor who attended on advocate Deva Kumar Das after he was attacked by a stray leopard on Saturday expressed shock at the latter succumbing to the injury, police is waiting for the deceaseds autopsy report to probe any suspected murder angle.

Dr Paban Kumar Padampati of the Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital, who attended on Das, told The Assam Tribune that the injury that Das sustained could never be the reason of his death.

Das was not bleeding when he left the hospital and I was shocked to know that he died on Sunday morning, Dr Padampati said.

Suspicions are being expressed by various sections hinting at the property dispute angle, which could have been led to his death.

Das, according to sources, was fighting a property dispute case registered under Chandmari police station.

Das, who was discharged from the MMC after being provided first-aid on Saturday, was found dead in his room in a pool of blood the next day.

Senior Superintendent of Police (City) AJ Baruah said that they are waiting for the autopsy report before going ahead with any kind of investigation.
