GUWAHATI, June 25 - The new sensation of Assam athletics, Hima Das, who performed creditably at the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast earlier this year, said today that her dream came true when she got the opportunity to sit alongside none other than her idol PT Usha.

Hima, who has been named brand ambassador of the 58th National Inter State Senior Athletics Championship, said she had a long cherished dream to meet PT Usha and today she got the opportunity to sit with her idol in a press conference.

Hima was in Poland recently for a training course. Asked about her experience there, she said, It was a fruitful training and I was able to enhance my performance during the training. I took part in a Grand Prix Championship in Poland and my performance was satisfactory, she said.

I would also like to thank Samsul Sir, Nipon Sir, Nabajit Sir, Pradip Nunisa Sir, among others, for their continuous support. They have been my inspiration and have played a big role in my progress so far, Hima added.

Optimistic about a good show in front of the home crowd, Hima said: I will try my best to perform well. I will compete in 200m and 400m which are my favourite events. If everything goes in the right way I may end up with a podium finish in both 200m and 400m. Her best timing in 400m is 51.32 and in 200m is 23.22 while the national record in 400m is 51.05 and in 200m is 22.82.

She also thanked the State Government and the State athletic body for hosting the championship in a short notice. The arrangements here are good and all the athletes will get a conducive atmosphere here to give their best, Hima added.
