Muslims perform last rites of Hindu woman at Panbari

DHUBRI, April 3 - Several Muslim youths from Panbari area performed the last rites of a Hindu woman of Alamganj Pt-7 village as relatives were unable to reach amid lockdown.

Santi Devi died on Wednesday, after suffering from old age ailments, but the area has only three Hindu families. Her family members said that the relatives of Devi could not reach her from Gauripur, Dhubri, Bilasipara and other nearby areas due to lockdown.

�Later the Muslim youths of our village, brought a priest, made all arrangements for her last rites�, said one of the family members, who also added that the Muslim youths also brought the wood and other items required for her last rites and took the body to the cremation ground.

�This area has only three Hindu families and few male members. When we saw that, we had to help them out,� said Dilower Hussain, a local of that area. Hussain also added that the family of the deceased waited a long time for their relatives, who couldn�t turn up due to the nationwide lockdown. �Later the Muslim youths carried the body to the cremation ground which is far away. They also carried the wood and other items required for the last rites and did everything, as per the instructions of the priest�, said Hussain.
