JORABAT, April 24 - A mushroom demonstration unit, set up for members of SHGs under the Assam State Rural Livelihood Mission on Mushroom Cultivation, was inaugurated at Morangabari under the Dimoria block by Additional Chief Secretary, Govt of Assam, MGVK Bhanu today.

The inaugural programme was organised in collaboration with the Mushroom Development Foundation. Around 125 SHGs will benefit from this initiative, in which members will be trained in mushroom cultivation for their sustainable livelihood.

Interacting with the farmers present at the function, Bhanu said the demand for mushrooms is much higher compared to production in Assam and the Northeast, and he hoped that this initiative will help in meeting the demand, increase employment opportunities and also lift the economic status of farmers in the State.

Along with the Additional Chief Secretary, Pranjal Boruah of MDF, Nandita Hazarika of ASRLM, and Umesh Kr Tappliyal, Commandant of SSB, were also present in the programme.
