GUWAHATI, Jan 16 � Three incidents of drunken brawl leading to murder and string of fatal road mishaps reported in different locations throughout the day of Uruka marred the celebrations in Guwahati.

The incidents of murder were reported under Chandmari, Dispur and Latasil police stations on January 14.

While two teenagers were arrested today by city police on charges of murdering one Haren Kalita in Kahilipara hill side on the night of Uruka, police also cornered Nikunj Medhi, a police constable who fired at Nipul Bezbaruah, an auto driver by profession, on the same night in Piyoli Phukan area under Chandmari police station.

The accused constable was later apprehended from Kharguli and the 9mm pistol with one round of ammunition and a magazine was recovered from his possession.

In another incident, the brother duo of Dr Satyakam Phukan and Muktikam Phukan surrendered before the police on January 14 after one Abhinav Medhi died during the course of a brawl near Jurpukhuri.

A number of road mishaps were also reported on the night of January 14 in Guwahati in which two persons died.
