Murdered cop test Covid positive in Lakhimpur

NORTH LAKHIMPUR, Aug 11 - The COVID-19 scenario has taken a sensational turn in the district as a murdered policeman was found positive for the coronavirus.

The incident took place at Garehaga on the outskirts of North Lakhimpur when Ramen Baruah (35), a cop, was found COVID-19 positive following his murder allegedly committed by his wife on Monday night.

He was attacked by his wife Minu Das at their village under North Lakhimpur Police Station in the evening following some domestic issues.

A severely injured Baruah was rushed to the North Lakhimpur Civil Hospital and later shifted to Assam Medical College in Dibrugarh where he breathed his last in the early hours today. His swab test report came as COVID-19 positive. The North Lakhimpur police today arrested Minu, who also works in North Lakhimpur Police Reserve, following the complaints lodged by the parents of the deceased.

Meanwhile, the tally of COVID-19 positive cases has crossed one thousand mark in Lakhimpur district.
