Murder convict dies at JMCH

JORHAT, Aug 26 - Girja Prasad Sahu (65), a convict serving a life-sentence for murder in the Central Jail, Jorhat, died at JMCH on Tuesday due to several ailments.

A jail official said that Sahu, a resident of Rai Bahadur Lane locality here, was serving a life sentence after he was convicted in a murder case in May, 2004. He was suffering from multiple ailments and was admitted to JMCH where he expired, the official added.

Cash snatched: Meanwhile, two persons on a motobike on Wednesday snatched a bag, reportedly containing Rs 50000 in cash from a businessman at the busy Marwari Patty area here. A police source said that though the businessman identified as Dhrubajyoti Bora of Kakodunga outskirts here resisted the attempt of the motorcycle-borne duo but the miscreants succeeded in the bid and fled from the site.

Police was informed about the incident which was recorded by a CCTV camera installed in the locality. Investigation is on.
