Munin Barua chosen for Bhaben Saikia award

GUWAHATI, Feb 20 - Prominent Assamese film director Munin Barua has been chosen for the Dr Bhabendra Nath Saikia Award for the year 2018. The award, instituted by the Government of Assam in 2009, carries a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh, a citation and a shawl.

Born in 1946 in Khumtai of Golaghat, Munin Barua started his career in Assamese cinema as a scriptwriter and assistant director in the mid 70s. He has written scripts for 21 films, and has directed as many as 14 films. Some of his popular films include Bowari, Ghar-Sansar, Pita Putra, Mon-Mandir, Dinabandhu, Sewali, Daag, Barood, Rong, Maya, Bidhata, Priyar Priyo etc.

Barua�s film Dinabandhu had bagged the National Film Award for best feature film in Assamese.
