GUWAHATI, Oct 21 - The Mega multimedia interactive exhibition commemorating the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi concluded at the Sonaram High School playground here yesterday.
The seven-day event saw various performances, viz dance, drama, interactive sessions.
One of the major attractions of the exhibition was a five-hour dance marathon depicting dance forms of eight northeastern states by the artistes of the Song & Drama Division. The dance forms included Bihu, Sattriya, Bhortaal Nritya, Gayon Bayon, Mising Bihu, Thiyo Naam, Sonowal Kachari Bihu, etc.
The exhibition was organised by the Regional Outreach Bureau, Guwahati.
Biswajit Pegu, Deputy Commissioner, Kamrup Metro, who graced the closing ceremony as the chief guest, in his address said there is a need to promote the colourful art and culture of different tribes of the North East, and this exhibition, in a unique way, provided the platform to the artistes to showcase their rich heritage.
The Director General of North East Zone, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting LR Vishwanath, in his welcome address said this weeklong exhibition was the first of its kind in the entire North East covering an area of 10,000 sq ft. The exhibition was about showcasing the life, philosophy and ideals of Gandhiji, he added.
The exhibition depicted some of the objects and possessions of Mahatma Gandhi along with some rare pictures of his visit to various places in Assam. The handwritten letters of Gandhiji, rare pictures of his life and his stay in South Africa, flip book, and a complete timeline of Gandhiji were showcased in the exhibition. The exhibition attracted people from all quarters and of all ages.
As part of the programme, art competitions on the theme of Swachh Bharat were held among school students and prizes were later distributed to the winners. The employees of the Regional Outreach Bureau of Guwahati were also felicitated in the programme for their hard work for making the event a success.
