JALUKBARI, July 10 - A principals� meet was organised by University Grants Commission � Human Resource Development Centre (UGC-HRDC), Gauhati University, in association with the Assam College Principals� Council (ACPC) at GUIST Auditorium, GU recently.
In his inaugural address, Professor Vinod Kumar Jain, Vice Chancellor of Tezpur University, emphasised the significance of �churning� in the field of higher education across the country.
Touching upon the knowledge economy index of India which is very low compared to developed countries, he expressed his concern that, except in the IT sector, innovation has not resulted in the creation of wealth in India. In order to cope with the global expansion of education, the most important challenge on the part of teachers is the sharing of �domain knowledge�.
Professor Jain talked at length on certain important aspects such as Programme Learning Outcomes (PLO), Course Learning Outcomes (CLO), skill sets, critical thinking, capacity for problem solving, employability, etc. with regard to higher education.
He pointed out that being the leaders of institutions of higher education, the principals have to be multifaceted for dealing with the various kinds of complexities, critical issues, academic activities, etc.
Professor Lingaraja Gandhi, Registrar, Bangalore Central University, in his deliberation, elaborated on the issues of higher education related to college development.
Professor Ganesh A Hegde, Deputy Adviser, NAAC, Bangalore, highlighted the assessment and accreditation procedures of NAAC. Dr Santanu Baishya, chief consultant, Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA), Assam, talked at length on the way of functioning of RUSA at the state and national levels. A total of 140 college principals participated in the meeting, stated a release.
