Much fewer Durga Pujas in city this time

GUWAHATI, Oct 22 - As an effect of the ongoing pandemic, the number of Durga Pujas in the city has declined by around 22 per cent compared to last year.

This year, the city is hosting around 381 Durga Pujas. More than 490 big and small�Durga Puja celebrations were held in the city last year.

The Durga Puja committees of the city are strictly abiding by the COVID-19 protocol. The committees have decided to have low-key celebrations this time.

A source in the police department said that over 40 per cent of the Puja committees have taken permission from the administration to perform �Ghat puja� only.

There are 140 Durga Puja celebrations in the West police district, 141 in Central police district and 100 in East police district.
