Mridul, Kamal bag sports quiz crown

GUWAHATI, Oct 2 - The team of Mridul Ram Kalita and Kamal Medhi of Guwahati won the title in the 2nd Pulin Das Memorial Open Prize-money Sports Quiz Competition organised by the Guwahati Lawn Tennis Association (GLTA) at the Kumar Bhaskar Natya Mandir here today.

Bishwajeet Sarma and Raktim Ranjan Baishya came second while the duo of Dipjyoti Deka and Chandan Duwarah won the third prize.

The competition was conducted by Dipankar Koushik and Dilip Kumar Sarma. Sayantan Saikia anchored the event.

The final round was an eight-round affair comprising of three dry rounds, two video rounds, one clue round and three buzzer rounds respectively. In all 37 teams participated in the first stage of the competition held as preliminary screening round from where six teams were selected for the final round. In the closing function GLTA secretary Nabajyoti Kalita welcomed the gathering. RK Sarma, adviser, University of Science and Technology (USTM), Meghalaya gave away the trophy to the champion team.

The top three winning teams walked away with cash awards of Rs 10,000, Rs 7,000 and Rs 5,000 respectively along with trophies. Teams from fourth to sixth were awarded Rs 1,000 each.

Earlier, in the inaugural function, floral tribute was paid to the eminent sports organiser Pulin Das. The competition was declared open by GLTA president Kalyan Kumar Das.
