MPs urge GM of NFR to address public grievances

GUWAHATI, Sept 9 - The General Manager of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) Sanjive Roy held a discussion with Members of Parliament (MPs) falling under the jurisdiction of Rangiya Division of the zone earlier this week.

The discussion, held at the office of Divisional Railway Manager at Rangiya, was attended by Lok Sabha MP Pradan Baruah of Lakhimpur, Rajya Sabha MPs Biswajit Daimary and Santiuse Kujur, and representatives from other MPs of this region, apart from senior Railway officials.

During the meeting, Baruah requested the NFR authorities to improve the station approach road at stations like Gogamukh and Murkongselek for the convenience of the passengers. He also requested the Railways to check feasibility of construction of overbridges at stations like Silapathar and Jonai.

Baruah also stressed on the need to introduce a train to the southern States of India from the North bank region of the Brahmaputra for the convenience of the people.

Daimary requested the NFR to construct flyovers in all major stations falling under the BTDA region.

He also demanded erection of fences in the thickly populated portion between two level-crossing gates by use of barbed wires so that people cannot cross the track haphazardly.

Daimary suggested that all coaches of local trains should have chair cars for better comfort and safety and requested the Railway authorities to introduce a Shatabdi-type train from Tezpur to New Jalpaiguri.

Kujur asked for improvement of passenger amenities at Tangla Railway Station and increase in train stoppage timing.

Representatives of other MPs also put forward demands like stoppages of Rajdhani Express trains at Rangiya and introduction of a Janshatabdi-type train between Dhubri and Guwahati.

Ravilesh Kumar, Divisional Railway Manager of Rangiya Division gave a presentation on the activities and performance of the Division.
