GUWAHATI, June 18 - Jiten Chakravartty, a resident of Sree Nagar area of the city and husband of Guwahati MP Bijoya Chakravartty, passed away at the GNRC Hospital following a stroke this afternoon. He was 82. He was admitted to hospital yesterday.
A former officer in the State Council for Education Research and Training (SCERT), Chakravartty had earlier served in Gargaon College and Mangaldoi HS School. After his graduation from JB College, Jorhat, he obtained his master�s degree in English from Lucknow University and followed it up with another master�s degree in political science from Gauhati University.
A man with an amiable disposition, Chakravartty was loved and respected by all. He was a regular contributor to various newspapers and journals including The Assam Tribune.
He leaves behind his wife and daughter Suman Haripriya who is an MLA in the Assam Assembly. His son had predeceased him. His last rites were performed at Navagraha crematorium.
