SILCHAR, April 11 - Silchar MP Susmita Dev has urged upon the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of India to extend immediate assistance to Gohela Boro, the national level archer from Assam who is battling for her life sans any financial assistance.

In a letter to the Union Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Vijay Goel, the Congress MP from Silchar has said that a national level archer, who has made Assam proud by winning 72 medals in various national, State and district level archery competitions, is now fighting for her life without any assistance from the government.

In a country of 1.2 billion people, there are instances where sportspersons have been left to the mercy of the Almighty during their crisis hours. Despite their exemplary performances at the Olympics and other international events, sportspersons quit their love for the game and resort to other professions to earn their living due to paucity of financial assistance. I hope that the Ministry will look into the matter and extend help to the archer at the earliest, Susmita mentioned in the letter.
