Movement for ILP issue continues in Manipur

IMPHAL, May 15 - A public movement demanding implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system continues in the State, with the staging of a mass sit-in between Keishampat to Hiyangthang along the Imphal-Mayai Lambi route in Imphal West district on Saturday.

The Joint Committee on Inner-Line Permit System is spearheading the ongoing public movement in the State.

The supporters of the movement also raised slogans demanding enactment of three pending Bills.

On May 9, all political parties met in Imphal and resolved to depute a delegation led by the Chief Minister to urge the central authority in Delhi to give assent to the three pending Bills passed by Manipur Assembly on August 31 last year.

The Bills in question are � the Protection of Manipur People�s Bill, 2015; The Manipur Land Revenue & Land Reforms (7th Amendment) Bill 2015 and The Manipur Shops and Establishment (MS&E) (2nd Amendment) Bill 2015.

On the other hand, Churachandpur-based Joint Action Committee (JAC) against Anti-Tribal Bills has called a 48- hour total shutdown in all tribal territories of the State starting from midnight tonight till the midnight of May 17.
