IMPHAL, June 21 The Manipur Forest departments plan to translocate the critically endangered species of brow-antlered Sangai deer has evoked sharp reactions.
Opposing the plan, Youth Physical Club, in a press release, said that Pumlen Pat is one of the rare fresh water lakes of the State and the area requirement for the translocation of the deer is 38 sq kms.
But the existing area of the Pumlen Pat is just 22 sq kms, the release said and questioned from where the remaining area will be added. It appealed to the Forest department to withdraw the plan of relocating the rare deer.
