By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, May 29 The All Assam Students Union (AASU) today vehemently opposed the reported move to shift the North East Integrated Office, which comprises the commercial offices of the Assam Oil Division (AOD) and the Guwahati, Bongaigaon and Digboi refineries, to Kolkata. It also opposed the reported attempt at removing the age-old symbol of the Assam Oil, which depicts the one-horned rhinoceros.

In a statement here, the student body described the above decisions as plots hatched by the anti-Assam lobby and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Central government and demanded immediate steps to revoke the said decisions.

AGP: The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) also vehemently opposed the reported move to shift the commercial office of the Assam Oil Division (AOD) of the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) to Kolkata.

In a statement here this evening, the regional party alleged that the IOC and the AOD authorities have been conspiring to shift the North East Integrated Office and to change the code of the AOD commercial office from 9600 to 7500 to facilitate shifting of this commercial office to Kolkata with effect from June 1 next.
