Move to rein in traffic rule violators

GUWAHATI, July 6 � In view of large number of vehicle owners not abiding by the prescribed rules and regulation, the enforcement wing of the Transport Department has now intensified its vigil in and around the city.

The department has now resorted to surprise checks in various areas during peak hours and so far a number of vehicles have been fined.

Sources in the department informed that the surprise checking of the vehicles would continue for next few days to bring the violators to book.

�As per our information, blatant violations are taking place in the name of vehicle registration and maintaining other paper works. We are going for intensified checks in cooperation with the traffic police wing,� sources said.

Sources went to inform that the department is keeping a close eye, especially on luxury cars which more often than not do not carry the mandatory sets of documents.

An official of the enforcement wing, said: �At present we have set up a make-shift checkpost on GS Road and a good number of vehicles have been fined during the checks.�

Meanwhile, traffic police sources, too confirmed that specific information had been passed on to the ground level staff to maintain a strict vigil to ensure that those violating the traffic signals were not spared.

�In the last one month or so, we have fined a good number of vehicles who were spotted violating the direction of the automated traffic signals,� a senior police official said, adding that the department was leaving no stone unturned to ensure that traffic violations were minimized.
