By Correspondent

TEZPUR, June 18 - Several different organisations, namely Banhbari Anchalik Boro Sahitya Sabha, West Tezpur Anchalik ABSU and Bengali Students Federation have opposed a recent move to open a wine shop in Phulaguri area by some unscrupulous people.

The organisations under reference have always been raising their voice against various anti-social elements who have been trying to vitiate the social atmosphere and damage the closely-knit communal fabric in the greater Khelmati and Phulaguri area under Rangapara Police Station in Sonitpur district.

The office-bearers of the aforementioned organisations alleged that one Amit Mech of Hatidubi area supported by some corrupt contractors and one surrendered NDFB leader are trying to open the wine shop at Phulaguri Centre, which is surrounded by numerous social and academic institutions like Kadamtal High School, Khelmati High, ME School, Sonali Junior College, etc.

The organisations alleged that consumption of country liquor in the greater area had already done great harm to the social environment as well as to the students community. If the said wine shop is permitted to start business, the social environment will deteriorate even further, they alleged.

Attracting the attention of the authority concerned, including the Deputy Commissioner of Sonitpur, Laya Madduri, district Excise officials and police administration, the socially conscious people of the area, besides members of the three aforementioned social organisations sought official intervention in saving the peaceful environment of the area.
